Seals to drawing or as a replica of an installed part are routine, not an exception: describe the installation situation, medium and temperature and our suppliers will produce moulded seals and cut parts to size.
EPDM for water, steam and many alkalis; NBR for mineral oils and greases; FKM/Viton for fuels, solvents and high temperatures; silicone for hot air and food contact; PTFE for aggressive chemistry. The wrong elastomer swells or hardens within weeks.
What counts is not the average but the peak during start-up, cleaning (CIP/SIP) or a fault. Allow at least 20 °C headroom below the material’s continuous service limit.
For O-rings the cord thickness and inner diameter matter, for flat gaskets the outer dimension, hole pattern and thickness. Gaskets that are too thick compress unevenly and tear at the edge; too thin and they will not seal at the rim.
Seals are wear parts. Once the correct size has been identified it belongs in stock — downtime almost always costs a multiple of the component.
Medium, temperature and pressure decide. A removed old part helps: hardness, colour and bending behaviour give clues, but only the plant documentation is conclusive. If in doubt send us a photo together with medium and operating temperature and our technical sales team will identify the material.
Yes. Moulded seals, cut parts and stampings are produced to size. We need outer and inner dimension, thickness, hole pattern plus medium and temperature. For replicas a dimensioned photo of the old part is usually enough.
Elastomers age even unused. Stored cool, dark and free of tension, NBR and EPDM remain usable for several years, FKM considerably longer. Avoid ozone sources such as electric motors close to the storage location.
