Buying Seals — what matters in the selection
Seals are the cheapest part in a plant and the most common cause of unplanned downtime. Whether flange gasket, O-ring or moulded seal on an access door — what matters is not the price but whether material, dimension and compression match the medium and operating temperature.
The shukchok range covers seals for process, cleaning and environmental technology — from EPDM flat gaskets for aqueous media through FKM/Viton for oils, fuels and higher temperatures to silicone for hot air and food contact. Dimensions and material are stated on every item so you can order without a callback.
Seals to drawing or as a replica of an installed part are routine, not an exception: describe the installation situation, medium and temperature and our suppliers will produce moulded seals and cut parts to size.
Selection criteria
Pick the material by medium
EPDM for water, steam and many alkalis; NBR for mineral oils and greases; FKM/Viton for fuels, solvents and high temperatures; silicone for hot air and food contact; PTFE for aggressive chemistry. The wrong elastomer swells or hardens within weeks.
Operating temperature including peaks
What counts is not the average but the peak during start-up, cleaning (CIP/SIP) or a fault. Allow at least 20 °C headroom below the material’s continuous service limit.
Dimension and compression
For O-rings the cord thickness and inner diameter matter, for flat gaskets the outer dimension, hole pattern and thickness. Gaskets that are too thick compress unevenly and tear at the edge; too thin and they will not seal at the rim.
Plan for spares
Seals are wear parts. Once the correct size has been identified it belongs in stock — downtime almost always costs a multiple of the component.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know which sealing material I need?
Medium, temperature and pressure decide. A removed old part helps: hardness, colour and bending behaviour give clues, but only the plant documentation is conclusive. If in doubt send us a photo together with medium and operating temperature and our technical sales team will identify the material.
Can I get seals to drawing or as a replica?
Yes. Moulded seals, cut parts and stampings are produced to size. We need outer and inner dimension, thickness, hole pattern plus medium and temperature. For replicas a dimensioned photo of the old part is usually enough.
How long can seals be stored?
Elastomers age even unused. Stored cool, dark and free of tension, NBR and EPDM remain usable for several years, FKM considerably longer. Avoid ozone sources such as electric motors close to the storage location.
Can I order seals on account?
Card payment, Apple Pay and Google Pay are available immediately. Purchase on account and prepayment by bank transfer are in preparation for business customers and will be available shortly. If a card declines a larger amount, please contact us — we handle those orders individually.
How quickly are seals delivered?

Do I get technical data sheets for seals?
Yes. Data sheets, dimensional drawings and manuals are — where provided by the manufacturer — filed under “Downloads” on each product and accessible without an account. If a document is missing we will supply it on request.
Who is my contractual partner when I order?
shukchok. Even where an external supplier lists and ships the product, shukchok remains the seller and contractual partner. Invoicing, payment processing, warranty and refunds all run through shukchok — you have exactly one point of contact.
Can I return seals?
Unused stock items can be returned within the statutory and contractual rules. Items made or configured to customer specification are excluded from return. Please register a return in advance so we can allocate the process.
