Buying Separators, filters, and purifiers — what matters in the selection
Separators and filters keep out of the media stream what destroys downstream components: particles, condensate, oil and aerosols. They are the cheapest insurance against pump, valve and analyser damage.

Selection is less about fineness than about separation principle and flow rate: too fine a filter in the wrong place blocks instead of protecting.

Separation principle by contaminant
Cyclones and impingement separators remove droplets and coarse particles, depth filters fine solids, coalescing filters aerosols and oil mist. The order in the train decides the service life.
Flow rate, not connection size
Thread size says nothing about capacity. What counts is the permissible flow at working pressure — below that the pressure drop rises disproportionately.
Monitor differential pressure
A filter is due by differential pressure, not by calendar. A simple indicator saves more than it costs.
Do not forget condensate drainage
Separated condensate has to leave. Without an automatic drain the bowl fills and separation collapses.
Frequently asked questions
How often does a filter element need changing?
By differential pressure, not by time. As a rule of thumb change at around 350 mbar differential or annually at the latest, because the medium ages even without loading.
What filter fineness do I need ahead of an analyser?
1 to 5 µm is customary as the final stage directly before the instrument, with a coarser pre-stage at the sampling point. A single fine stage without a pre-filter blocks quickly.
Are replacement elements available separately?
Yes. Wherever the manufacturer offers replacement elements they are listed individually. State housing type and size — a matching element can usually be sourced even for older housings.
Can I order separators, filters, and purifiers on account?
