Selection criteria
Glass type by load
Borosilicate copes better with thermal shock, soda-lime is cheaper and sufficient for mild conditions. With steam and rapid temperature changes borosilicate is the right choice.
Pressure-temperature curve
The permissible pressure falls considerably with temperature. The figure on the nameplate normally applies at room temperature.
Plan the seal as a wear part
The seal ages faster than the glass. A set of spare seals belongs in the order, not in the next procurement cycle.
Consider cleanability
Fogged or scratched glass is useless. Where deposits form, a version with a flushing connection is the better long-term solution.

Can I replace just the glass disc?
Yes, provided the fitting is designed for it. Disc and seal should always be changed together — a used seal rarely seals reliably on a new disc.
Which glass suits steam applications?
Borosilicate. It withstands thermal shock considerably better than soda-lime glass, which can crack on rapid cooling.
Are sight glasses subject to mandatory inspection?
As a pressure-bearing component they fall under the rules for the pressure section of the plant. Classification is made by your competent person; the technical data per item provides the basis.
